I recently had my long time friend Eamon Hughes on the podcast and he is literally a rocket scientist. On top of that he is one of the most sincere, kind and humble men I am grateful to call a friend.
In our conversation I said, “Hey is it ok if I introduce you as a rocket scientist and ultra endurance athlete?” He said sure Brett, but really I am a pioneer.
This statement had me examine how all of us are trying to be a pioneer in our own life. By Eamons definition a pioneer is “someone that is constantly exploring the limits and unknown edges.” Fuck yea! That’s what I am about and would like to continue exploring.
But how can we show up in our life as pioneers that are exploring not only the unknowns in our world but also the unknowns of ourselves? Giving ourselves the approval to step fully into exploring the unknown and not making it look like we always have everything together.
Shit, people always say to me “Brett, you are so calm.” To which I tell them yea 85% of the time, and every once in a while I lose my shit over small things. The other day my amazing wife was calmly asking me about when I put the baking soda in for the hard boiled eggs. Instead of going “yea, the damn shells wont come off, my bad.” I instead chose to be a prick and say “Don’t like them, make them yourself then!”
Needless to say I apologized for being a jerk. The whole point is as pioneers things get messy, as we push ourselves and the normal boundaries of what life is suppose to be like we are going to need to get comfortable with messing up and failure.
So here is a question to ask yourself –
In what ways would I like to be a pioneer in life?
